A backyard wedding is a special event where families and friends come together to celebrate two people and their love for each other. Cheryl and Mark’s simple yet stylish ceremony brought them closer as they shared their feelings and vows in the company of their closest loved ones amidst their beautiful rose-lined garden.
Their wedding day was intimate and relaxed, a day filled with both traditional and nontraditional elements, without time constraints and to-do lists. It was just a day to celebrate love, a sweet and needed reminder that wedding days don’t have to be productions.
Cheryl and Mark stayed true to themselves throughout the planning process and wedding, making my job so much easier as a photographer. My only job was to document exactly how the day unfolded, no rigid timeline to stick to and no real pressure for the ceremony to start at 5 o’clock on the dot; simply a day to document Cheryl and Mark’s incredible love story.
While rain on a wedding day is nothing new and in a year when nothing went to plan, the weather could have easily put a damper on the whole day. But, rather than be disappointed, Cheryl and Mark embraced being surrounded by loved ones – including their beloved dog, Maggie – as they smiled their way through their vows.
I hope that the past year has taught us all that despite some of our best efforts, so much of life is truly out of our control and the best we can hope for is to respond to the curveballs as they come with grace and flexibility, letting go of expectations for perfection, embracing the beauty of the moment and being grateful for life as it comes.
