Writing about myself and my career is not an easy task for me. I think that’s why I love design, art and photography so much, because I’d much rather show you something than try and explain it!

Growing up, I had a drawer in my parent’s pantry filled with crayons, construction paper, glue and endless art supplies. I found myself drawing through grade school and then excelling in art classes through high school.  At the time, I thought the art classes were just an easy A to fill my schedule, but I realize now that I was developing my passion.

I graduated from Kutztown University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Communication Design with a concentration in Graphic Design and Advertising. In college I took a few elective photography classes, and in the summer of 2009 a friend asked if me if I would take some maternity photos of her to document such precious time in her life. This photo shoot was a casual favor that has since then turned into a well-known side gig. Since 2009, I have held over 130 photoshoots in addition to my full-time job as a lead graphic designer.

Photography is more than a side-job – it is a passion. I am hands down a people person, and meeting new people and capturing their story in photos is both humbling and heartwarming for me. I am fascinated by the “in between” moments—the ones that aren’t posed or forced, the quirky, subtle gestures and expressions that happen in the blink of an eye.

The best part of being a graphic designer is knowing that I can use my creativity to help others shape their vision. Beautiful color palettes, simple form and a love of print drive my passion for design and photography. I love using grids and shutterspeeds, typefaces and Pantone swatches, white space and pixels to create beautiful images. I have more typefaces than pairs of shoes, which, as you might imagine, makes my husband happy!

When I’m not designing or taking photos, I like to travel, play bocce ball, go horseback riding and take on DIY projects. I’m always down for a good cup of coffee, great conversation and new ideas. I enjoy listening to classic rock and consider myself to be an old soul. Growing up, I surrounded myself with the works of Frida Kahlo and Andy Warhol, which inspired me to pursue a career in art.

Lastly, here’s my personal Instagram. It’s a more accurate reflection of my mood and my feelings along with my daily adventures and travels: www.instagram.com/sweet_emilie.

I hope you have enjoyed learning a little bit about me, my passions and my drive!
