How far in advance should I book?

I always recommend booking your wedding photographer as soon as you decide that you want to work together. Due to the nature of weddings, it really is never too soon to secure your date. Please note that no wedding is considered booked until a contract & retainer fee has been paid in full.

I suggest booking your lifestyle photography session at least 1-2 months in advance as I offer a limited amount of sessions per month. Availability on the weekends during the spring, summer, and fall months fill up fairly quickly. Of course, if you are looking for a last-minute session, please contact me and I’ll do my best to accommodate you! Lifestyle sessions require a signed contract and payment is due in full on the day of your session.

If you are inquiring about a newborn session, it is best to reserve your session about 6 weeks before your expected due date to ensure availability. Please do not wait until your baby is born because, during busy times, I cannot always ‘squeeze in’ additional sessions. However, feel free to email and I will do my best to fit you in! Many newborn photographers say that they will not photograph babies over 12 days old, but I am skilled and experienced enough to ensure you will have beautiful images even if your baby is a bit older.

Why do you prefer email communication?

Because I am a very busy mom of a curious and creative 13-year-old while also trying to simultaneously balance life, photography and a full-time design job. I like to keep a log of each project and order to go back to. I’ve also found that this is the best way to make sure myself and my client are on the same page.

How would you define your style of photography?

My photography style is very personal, I haven’t been able to find the perfect words to describe it, but I like simple images using mainly natural light and darker tones to create images that evoke emotion and that are full of wonder. My style is a blend of photojournalism and portrait photography, a mixture of artistic posed portraits and fun, natural shots.  I’m fascinated by and aim to capture the “in between” moments—the ones that aren’t posed or forced, the quirky, subtle gestures and expressions that happen in the blink of an eye. I like to take the “fly on the wall” approach, catching life as it is without trying to interfere with what is going on. It’s the little details that will help you remember what it was like during those special moments at the time of the shoot.

How did you get started? What kind of training did you have?

Art has always been very much a part of my life and when I got to high school, I took a graphic arts class where I first was exposed to Adobe Photoshop. I then took a few elective photography classes at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania while I was earning my Bachelor of Fine Art in Communication Design. Then, after my daughter was born I got a lot of portrait practice, much like every other mom who enjoys photography… by taking pictures of my daughter!

Do you have a studio? Where should we take our pictures?

I’m not a studio photographer – I like to think of the great outdoors as my studio! I am available to help you decide the perfect place for your shoot and I am happy to come to an outdoor or indoor location of your choice, including your home.

There’s also something that I really love about photographing families in their own homes for newborn pictures. There’s a comfort level that you can’t replace and it helps create beautiful, warm, personal images for the family. No two homes are exactly the same, so each session is unique and showcases things that are important to you. Years from now, when your children are looking back on these images, they will be filled with things that matter.

Is there a perfect time of day for my photos?

There is indeed! We photog’s call it the golden hour: an hour before the sun sets is the best time to shoot because you get the most amazing warm, glowing light during this time!

How long will the session take?

You can expect to be on location with me for about an hour, unless of course you have booked a wedding!

What happens if the weather doesn’t cooperate?

Unfortunately, I can’t control Mother Nature. However, if weather conditions are not favorable due to rain or high wind we will reschedule your session.

What if I need to reschedule?

No problem! I am a mother of a 12-year-old myself and I know that life can get crazy and that sickness might creep up on you. Please try to contact me at least 24 hours in advance in the event that you need to reschedule. We’ll work together to find a time that works!

How long will it take before I can see my images?

Galleries will be ready for viewing within 2-3 weeks for portrait sessions and 6-8 weeks for weddings.

You took so many pictures! Do I get them all?

As a photographer I take great pride in every image that I deliver to my clients. Each image you receive is individually chosen and edited to my specific standards. When the session is complete I go through each and every photo and carefully select the best of the best. I get rid of any closed eyes, blurry photos, awkward facial expressions and anything else that doesn’t look quite right during this process. After the photos are selected, I carefully retouch the highest quality photos, and give you every picture I can – without loading you up with duplicates and triplicates of the exact same portrait — as I focus on quality; not quantity.

Images that “make the cut” are strongest in composition, lighting, and emotion – the overall package. Because photography is not only a profession, but also an art form for me, I base my decisions on these elements, and refrain from allowing clients to pick and choose the images they want to be edited.

That being said, I do spend a large amount of my time editing your images. Honestly, this is one of my favorite parts of our session because this is when the photos truly come to life! While I aim to capture everything perfectly within camera the moment I press the shutter button, I have a very specific style I like to post-process: it’s the style you see on my website and through all my photos, and its (hopefully) the reason you chose me to capture your special moments in the first place.

The number of images I deliver varies; however, I generally create 20-30 finished images per hour for my standard lifestyle photography sessions. For weddings you’ll tend to receive more and for business portraits & headshots you’ll tend to receive fewer images, depending on the circumstances of the request.

Are prints included?

They aren’t, but the gallery gives you easy access to ordering prints of all sizes for your high-resolution images. I prefer to offer the flexibility of choosing what prints you want afterward, as opposed to locking you into specific printing options beforehand.

All photos are printed on a lustre finish semi-gloss paper.

Are you insured?

Yes!

Pro Photographers Insurance

What types of payments do you accept?

Currently I accept cash, checks, and Venmo. Session fees must be paid the day of or before the session, unless otherwise arranged.
