Watching a new brand evolve and come to life is an exciting process and one that I love being a part of. Creating a logo and designing business cards is only the first part of the branding process, but it makes the rest of the journey so much easier to follow. I had the wonderful opportunity to create a brand identity for Senior Care Advisors, a business that helps older adults and their family members navigate the maze of services available for seniors and determine which are most appropriate given an individual’s unique, personal circumstances.
My client wanted his logo to look warm, comforting and inviting. I wanted to ensure his logo would stand out and be recognizable within the industry so I did a little research of what competitors were doing. From a branding standpoint I recommended staying away from a red and yellow combination because our brains automatically associate those colors with food — thanks to McDonalds. I know it sounds silly, but next time you see those colors together, you’ll likely think of those famous golden arches!
First, I created some logo concepts in black and white. It’s always best to view a logo in black and white first so that you’re naturally drawn to the design aesthetic instead of how the colors tend to make you feel. I also like to work first in black and white to ensure that the logo will look good in its simplest form.
I then proceeded with adding color to his favored logo concept and presented some options, his favorite being the combination of tangerine and red:
After completing the logo design, we got started with the business cards. After a few slight tweaks of the initial design, he signed off on a one-sided card. Here is the final product:
